Well the hunting season is upon us.
My neighbors across the street drew C4 as a party with their relatives. They are heading out this morning and heading to the woods.
Both husband and wife hunt and have been doing so for a few years. Actually the husband has been hunting for several years. Does good on pheasants and ducks but neither has taken their first deer yet. I have a feeling this is their year.
As for my family, we are just about ready to go.
I will be out grocery shopping this weekend as well as picking up some last minute supplies to replenish the camp stuff. I need to stop by BigDog's house and pick up my fishing poles which I left up at Coon Camp Springs a few weeks ago.
A couple of weeks ago, my wife decided that this year, she and my youngest daughter would be spending the whole 9 days with us this year. Usually my daughter Cindy and I spend the whole 9 days and my wife and youngest only spend a few days with us.
We usually get by. Our tent is perfect for two people. Getting the whole family in there can be a pain, always tripping over something or somebody.
I told my wife we should rent a travel trailer. She said, "Why rent? Let's buy one." Knowing that this opportunity will never happen again, I started looking on line for a used trailer. After checking out a few of them, my wife says, "Let's just buy a new one." Now that will definitely never come out of her mouth again so I jumped on it.
We shopped around and came home with a 22 foot Extreme RV Sportsmaster. It is sweet, fully loaded too. Master bedroom, two additional beds for the kids, refer, freezer, stove, oven, microwave, full bathroom with bath and shower, hot water heater, central heat and air conditioning, all the storage in the world, and a whole bunch of other stuff.
I will be hunting in style this year. I can not wait. The best part is that the RV dealers are working to make deals right now. I think the gas crunch is hitting them. We got the travel trailer out the door, tax, license and everything for $9300.
The other nice thing is it fits right down the side of my house with a few inches to spare on either side. I was worried I would have to store it.
When I take it out to go hunting I will post up some pics.
Anyway, back to hunting...
The trailer is packed, I have chopped and loaded the juniper we cut at Coon Camp Springs. I mixed this with some oak and lodge pole pine and loaded the truck. I am pretty sure our camp fire will be the best smelling in the camp ground.
I am heading to the range this weekend to double check the accuracy of our scopes. Shotguns are cleaned and ready. 100 rounds of #8 shot are in the ammo box. When we get there we will have two days of band tailed pigeon hunting left in addition to the open season on Grouse and Mountain Quail.
My daughter drew another either-sex tag for our zone. This is her last year as a junior so I am glad she got it. She is as stoked as can be.
The whole family is having a hard time sleeping and working because all we are doing is fantasizing about our trip.
Who else is getting ready to hit the road?
