ok..a friend and i hunted an area he has access to (yesterday). hiked and hiked...nada. when we were hiking separate, and he said he saw a huge sounder (herd?) of pigs up in the hills. on a long shot we worked this rarely hiked section. up and up and up. at the top, i was a sweaty mess. i had to stop halfway up to strip off layers of clothing. we get to the top, and i literally said, "wow, this is very nice..." i hit the ground. my friend was already down. at my peripheral, i see "shapes". we see about 60 pigs!! that is 120 eyes. they come thru a hole onto our legit property. and the STALK IS ON! we get to around 50 yards. i still cant talk about the huge whitetail i shot and didnt recover, so the sting is still in me, and my confidence is suspect. (oh, i also stuck a huge boar recently, that took weeks to find and arrow again, got my broadhead back! but i didnt shoot it the second time) i need to scrub off about 10 more yards....creep creep creep. my friend whispers..."watch that big one on the right". just that second...she pokes her head up, and sees us effen caught out in the open. she does this little urgent grunt, that clearly translates into, "RUN! there is a chinese dude and a white guy creeping up over the hilltop!!!" it was like a fire drill. they all run into the thickest nastiest patch of foilage, and they are gone.

it was amazing. there were maybe 20-30 little football sized piglets, a bunch of different sized sows, and a smallish boar that was running around humping all the sows, and loving life. given the chance i would have shot him in mid stroke, to make the story funner to tell. he was clearly a crowd pleaser.

it is easy to stay persistent in pig hunting when you get the occasional "close encounter". sooner or later, one is going down. and i will keep you posted

I spent early Vets day sculking around on public land looking for pigs. I saw new rootings, steeming hot trotting turds but no pigs... Dang I hate that, oh well had a good day afield.
Like they say here today gone the next...

Nice story Cliff! Would've been better if you did arrow that boar while it was humping haha.
