I got my Colorado Elk and Deer tags for October!

Going to zone 18 and others nearby. Going with my friend from work lives in Denver and has a cabin up there and hunts every year. He tells me that he gets his cow every year (sometimes a few with his brothers) and gets his deer as well. He knows the terrain very well and has a quad to move around. I had to draw a cow tag and an either sex for deer. It was the only combination to get both tags for the same week.

Well, I went on my trip and had to eat elk tag soup. It was not that bad as I managed to take a mule deer. Being my first deer, it feels like the trip was well worth it. I learned a ton and had a great time with my friend. I also got to meet his family who treated fantastic. So overall, it was a great trip. Next year I will be going to Utah!
