I had called it a morning and was walking back to the quad across a corn field, I stopped to glass a large blakc object. I thought it was a cow, but who knows, it could have been someones blind. It was a cow. I walked aways and stopped again to light a cigarette. Then started walking again. I noticed that the cow was looking at something to my left in front of me and not paying any attention to me. So I looked to see, and there he was,
all in a sneek, nose to the ground headed in my direction, but to my left.
I stopped, spit my cigarette out of my mouth
and dropped to one knee. IBy the time I got the crosshairs of my 30-06 on him he was looking at me and stopped. BOOM!
At first I thought that I had missed and was ready to shoot again, but then I could see I hit him good.
He went 25-30 yards and expired. I think it was about a 50-60 yard shot. This one is going on the wall. I dont know how to measure a buck, but it's widest part of the rack is 20". I will have the taxidermist score him for me. If your in West Central Missouri, theres a good one just outside Warrensburg. "THE CUTTING EDGE" He is in the yellow pages.
