I want to go pig hunting...

So i have had just about enough sitting in front of my PC reading other peoples stories and looking at their pics (dont get me wrong i like pictures of dead pigs, i just want it to be my dead pigs)

so now that dear season is slowly winding down i was hoping to get out (maybe with a friend or two) I live in San Francisco and was curious as to what people would recomend for some decent places to go...i am not asking you to give up your honey hole.

what is available for private land (non guided) with tress-pass fee ond or harvest fee?

or does anyone have access to some private land and wanted to make me tag along (for a fee)

what about the DFG website with the list of PLM land, anyone have any experience calling up the folks listed there asking permission (for a fee) and it only lists elk, deer but no pigs.

anywho...give me some ideas, I am dying to get some dirt under my boots and some blood on my hunting knife, btw i riffle hunt.

JP, you're not getting a lot of responses... I think everybody's gone deer hunting right now.

Your best bet for a rifle hunt right now would be to look into some of the guide services. I don't know of any place right now doing tresspass fee hunts, although of course if you do some research you might find somebody.

If you wanna hit public land, read up on Fort Hunter Liggett and Camp Roberts. When they're open, those are probably the best public land opportunities going right now. There are other public properties open to hog hunting, such as Clear Creek and Laguna Mountain, but those are very low percentage hunts (not that success rates are all that high at FHL or Camp Roberts either). Most folks who hunt there end up real discouraged, real quick. If you really want to "hunt" and not just kill, those would be great options though.

I don't think there are any PLM properties for hogs. However, you might find some of the listed properties that are in good hog country (central coast, Paso Robles, etc.) and give them a call anyway. I never tried it, but who knows?

I think your right Speckmisser, everyone must be out looking for deer, i guess its still B, C, D zone until late October.

maybe i should get myself a second deer tag and head up north looking for some bucks.

Venison aint bad eats either and thr freezer is getting low on meat ;-)

JP, I would seriously look into archery hunting. Both hog/deer opportunities increase exponentially with archery tags/equip. Best of luck....

jpichler; there are several "pay-to-play" sites just south of you. Most have self or minimal guided hunts in their rosters. Tejon, Bryson and Cedar Canyon are just a few not to mention choppers. Check them out and good luck...

Lots of good info to get you started. If you want nearly free public hunting, pick up a DFG regulations booklet and get a good map to start your search. There are several public hunting areas near SF.
If you really want to get started, have a better than average chance at scoring and learn the ropes, buy a guided hunt and remember all the tips you hear. Their job is based on putting you into game and helping you once you score...
