Identifying young birds / mature birds

Most of you probably already know this but I figure some of you might find this helpful and I finally got a good picture so I'll post anyway...

Here is a wing of a young first year bird. Notice the first two primary feathers are sharp, pointy, and worn looking...



And here is a picture of a mature adult bird. Notice the first two primary feathers are rounded off...


There you go. Now you can judge your adult / young birds and help determine how healthy the covey your hunting is. Out of the 8 quail I've shot this season only 2 have been first year young birds. But still happy with the size of the coveys I've been seeing.
