Does the California Dept. of Fish & Game depredation permit allow baiting for archery or firearm ambushment??
Or is the baiting allowed only for the traps??? If the baiting is not allowed for archery or firearm ambushment, then the hogs will not come back after one is killed or shots are fired. If baited daily for a week without being hunted then the dinner bell is already programmed in the hog brain and likely will cause the hogs to come back even after being shot. Only it will become nocturnal which is alright as I know the Calif. DF&G depredation permit allows night hunts. Baiting is the key to drawing in the hogs as they are pigs in the first place and are always drawn to a free dinner. I know baiting is allowed in the traps. If baiting is allowed on the archery and firearm depredation hunts, it will be a blast. Nuff said.

Down on the central coast where I live, we have this problem too. Two golf coureses that I play have pigs that tear it up; costing the GC's thousands of dollars.

One of them traps them. They successfullly solve the problem, one hires hunters, unsuccessfully solving their problem and costing them even more damage to the golf course. 95% of these pigs are nocturnal and to hunt them with a bow and spotlight is unrealistic.

People that hunt with the bow are HUNTERS, meaning they chase or search for (game or other wild animals) More often than not they are not successful
What Golf courses need, weather us hunters like it or not is, people to go out and, irradicate the problem. They have a investment that is being destroyed and that is costing them a lot of money; they need to stop it.

Baited traps are the answer.

Nevermind my other post above.

You don't neccesary have to use baits to catch hog but scent attractants will work.

Sorry guys, I know some of you golf I'm sure, but I'm tired of seeing golf courses going in everywhere!!!!! Just let the pigs take over for a while and establish themselves...and then blow 'em all to pieces! Leave a few behind to do it again in a couple years.

CAjackrabbit,is right on the money. You cant control hog populations with a bow Period! Trapping is the only way to keep the swine in check. You could get one or two with your weapon, but a good set trap will catch 6.Like the rabbit said hogs in some areas need to be eraticated,it wont be done, but that is the goal.Hog hunting is a sport,Hog control is all togrther different. If you shoot 5 pigs out of a sounder of 12 you still have 7 come 11 and so on.This is in a populated area so the liability is high.In situations like this you have go in and take them all out.
