I bought some Hornady custom ammo for 7 mag and I noticed that the bullets didn't seem to be seated as far as they should be, (and they hung up when feeding from the box/clip). The ammo never grouped well, and when I shot some Winchesters I had, they shot well. Will a bullet not seated deeply enough cause inaccuracy? Thanks in advance.

Every rifle will have a sweet spot for a given load when it comes to seating depth, just as it will be powder charge and preferred bullets. Are you saying you magazine is shorter than the factory round causing it to hand up on the magazine lips?

When I push the bolt forward the Hornady round hangs up (the tip against the end of my box). I did not notice this with the Winchester rounds. I compared the two side-by-side and it is clear that the Hornady ammo does not have the bullet seated as deeply. I bought some Remmington Accutips to use and these look like the bullets are seated well compared to the Hornady. I am going to site them in on Sunday.

Hi, sounds to me if that was factory ammo there must of been a mistake as all factory ammo companys have a specific seating depth to assure feeding into all firearms.

I shot the Remington Accutips well out of my Browning and that will be the ammo I use during deer season. I hope to start reloading soon.

the seating depth is kinda a inportant the closer the bullet is the the powder the less gas gap ... the farther the bullet sticks out the closer it is the the rifling of the barrel witch will start the bullet down the barrel that measurement is very important and can cause the bullet to fly all over the place just my 2 cents

Thanks Oneshothunter, that kind of confirms what happened with me.
