MY IN-LAWS LIVE IN TEXAS, I LIVE IN ARKANSAS. THEY ARE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH HOGS. IS IT LEGAL FOR ME TO KILL THE HOGS ON THEIR PROPERTY WITHOUT A TEXAS OUT-OF-STATE HUNTING LICENSE?
<
I OBEY THE LAWS PRETTY WELL AND DON'T WANT ANY TROUBLE.

You still need a license. But the good news is that if you are only going to hunt hogs it is very cheap. $35 if I remember right (but don't take my word for it).

7MM,

You probably want to call the Texas Parks and Wildlife department to get a confirmation. Here's what they say about hunting license requirements on their website

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
A hunting license (see below and hunting licenses) is required of any person, regardless of age, who hunts any animal or bird in this state, except alligators (an alligator hunting license is required) and furbearers (if the hunter possesses a trapper's license). No license is required for nuisance fur-bearing animals.

NEW LAW: A landowner (resident or non-resident) or the landowner's agent or lessee may take feral hogs causing depredation on the landowner's land without having acquired a hunting license, but all laws and regulations governing hunter education still apply.[/b]

Not sure how the new law applies to non-residents. One of the Texans on this board might have a good answer.

Good luck!

I go out to hunt Texas hogs and exotic once in a while. I always buy the $35/Five day non-resident hunting license which covers small game animals, hogs, and exotics.

The new law allows you to hunt wild hogs without a license if you are the landowner or landowners agent, and if the hogs are depredating your land. As long as you can prove that you are hunting the hogs on your inlaws property as an agent and its not just for sport, but because of the hogs destroying their land you are fine without a license. If you were born after sep.2 1972 you need hunters ed in texas.

YOU ARE REQUIRED UNDER THE Texas EXOTICS LAW TO HAVE A LICENSE FOR HOGS.

Non-resident 5-Day Special Hunting (Type 157): $45
Legal for any period of 5 consecutive days (valid hunting dates will be printed on the license when issued). Valid to hunt: Exotic animals, all legal game birds (except turkeys), all nongame animals, squirrel and javelina (not valid for other game animals or alligators).

Texas Hunting Lic. Information

Hogs are considered "Exotic" and here is the statement from the manual on Exotics.

Texas Parks and Wildlife NONGAME page

EXOTIC ANIMALS AND FOWL
Exotic animal refers to grass-eating or plant-eating, single-hoofed or cloven-hoofed mammals that are not indigenous or native to Texas and are known as ungulates, including animals from the deer and antelope families that landowners have introduced into this state. Includes, but is not limited to feral hog, Aoudad sheep, Axis deer, Elk, Sika deer, Fallow deer, Blackbuck antelope, Nilgai antelope, and Russian boar. Exotic fowl refers to any avian species that is not indigenous to this state, including ratites.
There are no state bag or possession limits or closed seasons on exotic animals or fowl on private property.

It is against the law to:
Hunt an exotic without a valid hunting license.
Hunt an exotic on a public road or right-of-way.
Hunt an exotic without the landowner's permission.
Possess an exotic or the carcass of an exotic without the owner's consent.
Penalty: A person who violates these laws commits an offense that is a Class A Parks and Wildlife Code misdemeanor ($500-$4000 and/or up to one year in jail).

The new bill that just passed, does let the landowner or landownes agent to HUNT wild hogs WITHOUT a license as long as the hogs are depredating the land. The only thing required is hunters education, if you fall in that age class of being born after sep 2 1971. I am a Game Warden in Texas and have hads lots of discussions about this law recently. The real fact behind it, is that it will give an excuse that outlaws will be able to use when caught hunting (whatever it may be) without a license.

Shadow,

Beerdonga is correct (as a Game Warden, I would hope so
<
). The new bill is in effect. He will not need the 5-day special license in this instance.

Good Hunting,

This doesn't answer your question, but in Oregon no license or tags are required to shoot feral pigs. Populations are growing in SW Or. A custom gunshop owner was telling me there are some spots on public land with good pig hunting there.

Something no one touched here.
I do not have the answers.
Regardless whether you buy a license or otherwise,
how about taking some of the meat home.
Sounds like a good idea to me.
Well check carefull all the states you will transport said meat thru
to see if you can transport wild game meat thru their state?????

Also, if you have a gun in the vehicle and crossing state lines,
good idea to have a hunting license for somewhere.
All this zero-tollerance crap and Patrotic Act, transporting of arms interstate.
Anymore it isn't, "OH gosh, I forgot that thing was even in here."

Simple Hunting License from somewhere will satisfy what can happen that is ugly if any cop feels like being ugly to an outofstater trying to drive thru.
