It's Big Game Drawing Time

SACRAMENTO - The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is gearing up for the 2003 Big Game Drawing. The waiting is over; the Fish and Game Commission adopted a modified preference point system (MPPS), and under the system, tag quotas will be awarded to applicants with the maximum amount of points for the preference point drawing portion.

The remaining portion of tag quotas will be awarded without consideration of preference points, otherwise known as the draw-by-choice. DFG is tracking preference points earned by individual hunters based on their driver's license number, DFG hunter identification number, or Department of Motor Vehicles identification numbers.

Applications for high-demand deer hunts, elk, antelope and Nelson bighorn sheep, must be received at DFG's License and Revenue Branch (LRB) in Sacramento by 5 p.m., June 2, 2003 to be considered for the Big Game Drawing.

Applications for elk, antelope and Nelson bighorn sheep are in DFG's annual "Big Game Hunting/Tracks" booklet, available at DFG offices and license agents statewide. Applications can also be printed from the Department's Website at
http://www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/biggame/bi...iggamebook.html.

Hunter's can only submit one application per species and each application must include the non-refundable $6.75 processing fee for each person listed. Deer tag applications must be purchased in advance at a DFG office or through a license agent. To find the nearest license agents, visit DFG 's Website at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/lrbweb/jsp.

Applications should be mailed to LRB at P.O. Box 989035, West Sacramento, CA 95798-9035. Hunters may also deliver applications in person to LRB's office at 3211 S Street, Sacramento. Automated drawings will be conducted by June 12, and successful applicants will be notified by mail. Beginning June 23, drawing results will be available by telephone during regular business hours at most DFG offices, and can be accessed on the Department's Website at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/index.html.
