Hey guys, I’m new to hunting ( like a new born )and looking to go into Carrizo Plains for some jackrabbit. Any help from an experienced person with locations ( not your secret spot ) or pointers would be great. Thanks

It's on fire right now... literally, on fire.

Can confirm it is on fire right now. Two separate 100,000+ acre wildfires this year in Carrizo plain it has decimated like 95% of the landscape

Thanks for the input. But if you check Cal fire’s website the Los Padres national Forest is on fire not Carrizo Plains or the Temblor range. Yes it is very close to it!

I am not up on the current fire status, but the ecological units are not the entire preserve. They may be closed while the general area off Soda Lake Road remains open. That said, the best spots I have found for jack rabbits is to the west of Soda Lake Road, off any of those side roads, closer to the boundary of the preserve near the ag lands. The jacks seems to be pretty well educated and take off well before you get close.

Awesome, thanks for the info Rick. Lots of BLM land not affected by fires from what I see on maps.
