JACKSON – Learn the latest insights and status of mountain lions, moose, elk and deer in three professional workshops being held this month Jackson.
The workshops are sponsored by the Game and Fish Department and the Wyoming Chapter of The Wildlife Society and kick off with the 7th Mountain Lion Workshop May 15-17. Presentations will cover many aspects of mountain lion ecology and management, including cougar interactions with humans, livestock and wolves. Nine western states, Florida and British Columbia will report on the species status.
The 39th North American Moose Conference and Workshop will be held May 18-21. The history of Wyoming moose management and population trends in Jackson Hole will be discussed in addition to many other moose studies and situations across North America.
Immediately following the moose workshop is the 5th Western States and Provinces Deer and Elk Workshop. The workshop runs through May 23 looking closely at habitat management and the status of winter feeding for deer and elk. Presentations will also highlight predators, chronic wasting disease and the role of public agencies and private organizations in deer management.
“These workshops are attracting some of the foremost biologists, managers and researchers from throughout the United States, Canada, and other countries,” said John Emmerich, G&F assistant Wildlife Division chief. “It’s a great chance for individuals keenly interested in wildlife or media representatives to gather the latest insights into these high profile species.”
Gov. Dave Freudenthal will offer the closing remarks of the moose conference and opening address to the deer and elk workshop.
All workshops will be held at the Virginian Lodge. Full registration is $175 for the mountain lion workshop and $150 each for the moose or deer/elk workshop. Students can register for $100 per workshop. Registration forms and agendas are available at http://gf.state.wy.us/services/education/w...shops/index.asp
Workshop questions should be directed to Scott Becker (307) 332-2688 for mountain lions, Tim Thomas (307) 672-7418 for moose and Daryl Lutz (307) 473-3400 for deer and elk.
