It's just an abscess. I find them all the time on hogs. They get them a lot, mainly from tusk wounds from fighting each other, or a sharp stick, or anything else. I wouldn't recommend using the green paste to butter your morning toast, but the leg, and certainly the rest of the animal is fine. I wouldn't worry.

Yeh John, Like bayedsolid said...nothing to worry about! I used to run domestic hogs for meat, on my ranch in the Mojave Desert area of Southern Calif.,
about 20 yrs. ago, and in the Spring when I'd turn'em out of the pens to forage on the "New" Green Growth...they'd sometimes get a few sores like that from cactus or Mesquite thorns, but it didn't seem to bother them that much and it certainly didn't affect the meat any! Come butcherin' time, we'd just cut away that puss pocket, and wash that area real good before wrapping it for the freezer and everything was "Hunky-Dory" ! But your right about..."If In Doubt, Throw It Out"!
That's a pretty good Rule-of-Thumb. Glad to hear you had a good hunt! Maybe I'll see you next month, when my "Cubs" are in town for their Spring Training!

Thanks for the input. I talked to my wife’s nephew in MI, and he said he's seen the same thing on deer -- eat away. The more positive re-enforcement the better though!!! It was a pretty good hunt, but a lot of hunting pressure - I had two good chances busted on opening morning by the same hunter (just the way it goes sometimes), so I had to work a little harder for this one. Just made it all the sweeter! Again, thanks for the replies.
