Anyone ever hunted Arizona for javelina? I need to know about what the cost is for an out of state hunter. When does the season start? When is the deadline for the drawing.  How many tags are given each year. Any stories or pictures from your trip would be great.

Evan, I was just looking for an old post and this subject caught my attention. I don't know what you found out , but I know some good ares for Javelina in AZ. Did you put an application in & get drawn ? If not you can still get left over the tags for certain areas. We got drawn for Javelina in 35B on the 2nd draw. It is first come first serve. You can put your application in now or wait for the left over tags sold over the counter on Jan. 28th.

Non resident tags for Javelina are $68.00 - AZ non resident hunt license costs $113.50 - AZ  Game & Fish Dept. phone number is 602-942-3000.

I hope you get a chance to hunt in AZ.

Arizona Jim, Thanks for the reply. I have gotten some info from JavelinaHunter.com. What are the zones like, How many, which are the best, how are they set up? I won't get a chance this year, but I'm hoping to go next year. What are the dates for the seasons. I will be hunting with a pistol (44. mag Redhawk) Is there a different season for pistols? Any info you could give would be great. I have never hunted Arizona or Javelina.

                                Thanks again

Evan,

go to the arizona game & fish department website.

click on "wildlife & fish" (on the left side under main menu)

then click on "statewide unit by unit hunting"

this will give unit and habitat descriptions as well as info on various game

the last thing you need to do is tell all when you get back, so i have some info before i go next year.

Evan III - I like your choice in a handgun. I shoot the .44 super redhawk & love it ! - You can use a handgun in the general hunt, but there is a special hunt called the HAM (handgun, archery, muzzel loader ) hunt. This hunt is in mid Feb. most of the time, but the actual dates vary year to year depending on the game mngt. studies.

The state is divided into different hunt units. You can hunt Javs. from the low deserts to the mountain foothills. They like riparian areas, canyons, caves, open hillsides, prickely pear cactus, roots & tubers.

A source of excellent information on javelinas is in a book sold by the AZ Game & Fish Dept. - It is called JAVELINA Research and Management in Arizona; by Gerald I Day. It costs about $7.00 ? - You will need a good pair of binoculars, & it pays to do some pre season scouting (especially for for food & water sources as they change depending on rainfall for the year). I haven't hunted all of the units but some of the best ones I know are 21,22,23,19A,20A,20B,31, & 35B. Check out http://www.azgfd.com for more info.
