Ok guys this is just an idea. I was reading the Ham Slam thread and saw some concerns about the price and some JHO'ers were a little upset at Tejon for increasing the hunt this upcoming year. I have never hunted hunted Tejon, but I hear its a great place and would love to try it, so no disrespect to Tejon's management at all. Jesse said in one of his post if someone has an idea for a new spot chime in.
Well, I have a ranch in mind that might work. This is just an idea and if there is enough interest within the JHO community I will pursue this with one of the owners. If not to many people are interested I dont think it would be worth it for the owners of the property. Again, "This is just an idea" and I would have to work out all the details with the owner of the ranch. The family could shut me down at any point, so I'm not promising anything. If enough people are interested I will write a formal letter to the family and have a family friend contact the family, since my friends property is right next door to the ranch in question. Liabilty I'm sure will be an issue, so we have to see on how we can get around that. This ranch is an "Active Cattle" ranch and they do offer hunting memberships to the gerneral public, so they are a hunter friendly ranch.
About the ranch......The ranch is located in central california. approximately 200 miles north of Los Angeles and 200 miles south of San Francisco, 35 miles northeast of Paso Robles. The ranch is 20,000 acres in size and elevation varies from 1,500 to 4,000 feet. Hogs are prevalent on this ranch because of the extensive habitat improvement. This ranch also plants about a hundred acres of barely annually exclusively for pigs and deer. Additionally 350 acres of grain is planted on the ranch for hay that the hogs and deer use. I would think this ranch would be plenty big enough to support 30 to 50 hunters per weekend. Chime in if you think that is to many. There is plenty of springs located throughout the ranch and a lake is also on the property.
Accommodations.....The ranch has two campsites with fresh water. RV or Tent camping is allowed at no extra charge. The campsites also have bathrooms.
Again, this is just an idea. If we have enough interest in this hunt I will see what I can do and "present" it to the family. If I can get the old Tejon price of $300 it might be worth it. I think it would be a win/win situation for the ranch and JHO'ers. It gives us a different place to hunt and a little closer for most JHO'ers. It also gives the ranch some exposure so if people are pleased with the ranch they might want to purchase a "Corporate Membership" for the seven month hunting season that they allow hunting.
Jesse what do you think? Guys if you have any questions or suggestions, please lets hear them.
