I was lucky enough to get drawn for the hunt last weekendand I was even luckier having a great guy like CL&RR provide me withdetailed intel from his sons successful hunt the weekend before. My boys have taken pigs is the same area andCha’s information solidified my decision to make the hike since 2 of the parkinglots are closed. We arrived 1hr beforeshooting time and made the 3.5mi trek so we could be in the area at first light. As light came we stayed up high on the leveehoping to see some early morning movement before stomping thru the tules. After about 45 minutes slowly walking andglassing I thought I saw a pair of pig ears dart into the tules, but nothingmaterialized so I told my son we should walk back to the cart, which we leftbehind once we got into the primary area, and get our waders on and startpushing the tules out. About half way backto the cart we heard movement coming out of the small canal that parallels thelevee. The movement stopped and we couldhear loud snorting of it trying to get our scent. We could just make out the black back behinda clump of tules about 40yds from us. Any direction the pig went would at least give me a quick shot so wejust held tight. Once the pig figured itwas clear she slowly stepped forward with just only her front legs forwardshowing and turned toward me. I wasextremely confident in the accuracy of my new slug barrel so I put thecrosshairs just below and between her eye and ear and she dropped like arock. She weighed just under 200lbs andwas super fat, thank god for the cart! Thanks again to CL&RR for the intel. We passed on our information to the 2 other hunters out there who wereusing archery and didn’t have waders so they were going to have a tough timegetting one I think.
