Well, the morning started out crisp and clear with just the sound of a cackling rooster and the beating wings of ducks overhead. We met up with Chuck at 6am from Devil Mountain Outfitter who donated the use of his dogs for this hunt. All was still quite....at 7:30am that all changed to barking dogs and grunting pigs. After some hairy moments in the thick tules my son got in position to make a good shot and put the 200lb sow down for the count. Chuck and his buddy Levi were great, with all of the commotion going on they maintained control and kept tabs on some of the kids that were obviously shaken by what was going on. I know when I was 12 or 13 there would be NO WAY I'd get in there!

Here's a couple of pics...

Thanks. We left by Noon and I told my son if we get one that'll keep me busy for the weekend since I process my own animals so we didn't hunt Sunday (I'm still sore). I'm going to check with the guide tonight to see if any of the other juniors were successful. We got this one out of Lot #3, we also saw a big boar when we got back to the truck heading across the open towards Lot #4.

Thanks guys for the kind words, it was a total charge and to see my son handle himself in a hectic situation brought some wetness to my eyes, I couldn't have been more proud of him.

Afterwards, when he was going through the shakes I told him to take it all in...this is the part that non-participants don't understand. We're all hunters, it's just that most of the people have supressed their natural instinct and now believe they are not part of the circle of life. The big craze is organic this, organic that...well it doesn't get anymore organic than this. I told him, just as Uncle Ted says, we don't have to defend ourselves for doing what we are programmed to do. If anything, those folks need to explain to me why they believe they are no longer part of the equation....

Sorry for getting on my soapbox, a couple of people I know have questioned recently why I feel the need to kill a pig. This website is full of people that understand what it's all about and makes me start thinking about the uninformed and those that want to end our true, undiluted way of life.
