New to hunting overall and enjoying learning a lot. My oldest and I were lucky enough to score on our first wild boar hunt in CA.
I have 2 boys that are old enough to big game hunt in CA, and I assume the same age applies in most other states as well. >12yo... We're now poking around D-11 for deer, and enjoying the time together if nothing else.
Question - If I wanted to start planning for a 2010 trip (as I assume it'll take a few years and some luck to get drawn in CA), what would the best state be to plan a hunt with them for Elk? Not looking for a trophy, but some meat instead. A cow tag makes the most sense I think, but if there were a family hunt, or other "group" situation that'd be great. Otherwise a junior hunt where I am just along for the ride would be just a good.
Are there junior hunts in any of the states for Elk, or are they on the same playing field as I would be as a non-resident?
We'll still apply for CA tags, but wanted to increase their odds while we still have rights to hunt..
Thanks in advance,
Paul
