Thanks for the comment, he was taken about five years ago on private property, just outside of a little town called Hornitos, south if Merced. I've been shoeing since1992, out of madera ca, then Kaycee, Wy, now back home in Madera. I sure miss the coon hunting in wyoming though! welcome to the site. There is lots of good info and guys hunters here. I am still kind of new to the pig game. Not yet got my first blood. But I have learned a lot and made sum friends here. I just get a kick out of seeing and hearing of other people's hunts/pictures. The good the bad and the ugly, err. In my case sometimes embarrassing. Them hog pics people post on here sure get my juices flowing, I just wish it wasn't so stinkin dry here in the San Joaquin Valley.

this guy was on Mother's Day of this year. He was laying right in front of my trail cam, when I stumbled upon him. I ended up taking him right there, and the camera went off right after I shot him ( camera was set on 10 sec. Video) . This guy cooked up very , very good.

Hey farrier, I'm in Madera too. Do you hunt around here or stick to your spot in Hornitos? There is some pretty good hog hunting right out of town here, but it has taken me years to secure access. I now have access to several ranches for hogs and pretty much any place I want for yotes. I'm still trying to get permission to wack a low country buck!

Hornitos was a quick , (lucky) deal. Sad to say it was brief, but worth it. I stay closer to home now, I have a couple of places that I was able to get permission on, after a few years of trying. I'm going to try my luck at one of them bucks too! Lets make sure and scare him onto your side of the fence or mine if we see him! Good luck on trying to get a buck, ( I know I need more than luck) lol.

Hey dk-1 , you have any pattern on your hogs as of late? They seem to have disappeared from my places that I frequent. Just curious to see if anyone else has the same situation. ( I hunt up in Raymond) . No sign of them around any of the stock ponds and no sign anywhere else.,heck maybe they all went up to the quarry , I guess.

The hogs I'm hunting have been in the same places, but these hogs don't move around much. They bed on a river in the thick brush and spend their nights rooting up orchards and hay fields. I hunt a ranch in the squaw valley area, which is similar to that country around Raymond. Last time I went there was last month and found the majority of them to be one and two properties over where citrus orchards meet the foothills.

I missed one with an arrow night before last. The hog was 15 yards away but I had to shoot through some brush. The arrow was deflected by a tree branch and ended up 6 feet high! This would have been my first archery hog.

Holy crap, on missing the hog! I got an arrow in a big boar pig a couple of months ago at about 27 yards. I was walking back on a cow trail after checking my camera, when I noticed some fresh rooting. Anyways, I walked a few yards more and noticed something up above a rock pile. It was a small pig standing and looking right at me, and big daddy hog was laying down next to him! SOB, I tried to be calm, I was waiting for a broadside shot from the little one, when the big one stood up. I pulled back and let one fly, I hit him good in the left shpulder( my first ever archery "hit" ) . He took off into the brush, and since I was alone , with out a side arm , and it was getting dark I just let him be. I went back the next am, after work , and NO SIGN of him. My bro and nephews went to help me look for him and NOT A SIGN OF HIM. Talk about feeling disgusted , I still feel bad that I didn't find him, and it would have been my first archery kill. I guess we can just keep try is all we can do.
