Another weekend at lake sonoma, no shots but saw 8 pigs. Fri. morning I was headed for the back of the lake. Some of the trails had fresh tracks and saw some fresh rooting. I was almost to the top of the hills and the property fence line when I busted a hog out of its bed at 20 yards. Two bounds and it was gone. I didn't see anything that evening. Sat. morning I was working into the same area at first light, it took me about 3 hours to stillhunt to the top, seeing nothing. I took a break at the top, then decided to follow the fence line. I walked about 40 yards and steped in a hole and rolled my ankle, by the sound it made and the pain I thought it was broken for sure. But after a few min. laying on the ground I was able to move it and the pain let up. So I cinched up my boot as tight as I could and found I could stand on it and started making my way back to the boat a couple miles away. I was taking the easiest way down and not worrying about being quiet. Not a fun hike!!! the flat parts were not to bad but I had to walk side ways on the up and down hill areas, most of the way. I had just went through a semi-open meadow and got back into the thick brush when I looked up the hill and saw the black back of a pig above a large log. I checked the range to the two openings that the pig could come out....19 and 23 yards. I waited and watched for a few min. then it bedded down. It was below the log so I couldn't see it. It stood back up after ten min. or so then laid back down. I figured that I would just have to wait it out. A couple hours later I was getting tired of waiting, it wouldn't have been so bad if I could have seen some part of it. But I started thinking it somehow moved off without me seeing it. I held off for another 20 min. then decided to try creeping around some brush and see if I could see it. It took a few min. to make my way around and then I could see behind the log. I saw what looked like another dark log but when I looked at it through my binos I could see that the "log" had hair. The pig was laying all sprawled out, I was trying to figure out which end was the head so I could shoot it in its bed at 9 yards. Watching it for a couple min. I saw something move and then noticed the piglets, just my luck a wet sow, no way I would shoot her. After a short time the sow smelled me or something and sat up looking right at me hesitated for a sec. snorted then ran a few yards into the brush, she kept snorting and moving off. I looked back to her bed and the tiny piglets were still there, keeping an eye out for Mom I walked over to take a look. There were six of them, maybe 3-4 pounds each. Hope I see them again next year!!! Made my way the rest of the way to the boat and headed for the ramp, the warm weather brought out all the ski boats and jet skis. It took about 40 min. to get the boat on the trailer with the crowds. When I took off my boot my ankle was the size of a softball and turning black so I figured it was time to head home.

Yeah, we're starving. Ankles, collarbones, anything. I cut my finger clamming, so I'll post a photo on another thread.

If I had a better internet conn. I would post a pic. But out here in the country all we can get is dial up, I'm running on 24K right now!!!! uploading a pic. takes about 40-45 min. Not really worth it to see my ugly ankle. LD, Those little piggies were too cute to Kill and too small. Not even football size more like potato size!! I'll be looking for that sow in a few weeks though when her **** aren't dragging on the gound.

Great story John. You're due to get one. With the amount of time you've spent out there, I'm betting this will be your weekend. Good luck. -YB
