The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks commission will vote on the 2008 and 2009 upland bird seasons Thursday in North Newton.

Jim Pitman, Wildlife and Parks small-game coordinator, will recommend seasons return to traditional frameworks they followed prior to the 2006 and 2007 seasons.

In June 2005, commissioners voted to open pheasant season the first Saturday of November, quail the second Saturday and prairie chicken the third Saturday.

They also voted to end quail season the third Sunday of January.

Traditionally, prairie chicken season opened the first Saturday of November and pheasant and quail the second over most of Kansas.
