La Panza Period 1 hunt????

Has anyone hunted the La Panza Elk hunt for Period 1?

My friend has an antlerless tag for Period 2 and I will be tagging along for the hunt (as a spotter and hopefully dead elk packer).

Any info on this hunt would be greatly appreciated.

I hunted it a few years back... it can be frustrating when all the elk stay on the private land. I was lucky and shot a nice bull. back then, of the 6 bull and 6 cow tags, they allowed 1 guy with a bull and 1 with a cow tag to hunt the south Chimmineas area off hwy 166, i dont know if this is still the case but i think it is. If you draw that area, you pretty much have the whole thing to yourself and have a great chance at a bull. I was the lucky hunter that drew the spot. my bull was a 7x6, and was the herd bull with 50 or so cows. My dad who also had a bull tag, (we put in as a party) didnt get a bull, but we hunted it almost every day, seeing elk on the public land only 2 of the days. He could have shot a bull on opening morning, but it had broken off his driver side completely, and hoping for another oppertunity to get a bull, he passed on the shot. looking back that was a mistake, because talking to the rancher, he had found the broken side of his rack and had it at his farm. have your buddy plan to hunt a lot of days and good luck!
