I was thinking about going there sometime this week and was wondering if anyone can give me driving directions from Fresno. I've heard there are a few parking areas and was wondering where or which one I should park on. Are there any fishing to be done there as well? I might want to bring a fishing pole for the afternoon portion of the hunt.

Park at the Laguna Mountain access it is clearly marked at you can not miss it. It will be on your left hand side if you are driving from Coalinga.

I have been to Clear Creek but never Laguna Mountain. On the map, I see a large body of water labeled as Hernandez Reservoir. Something that big should have a few fish in it, Yes?

Nope! There's BLM land access on the north side. Dunno about access, but if it's BLM, you can fish/hunt it. Call to double check.

Try these coordinates: 36.396426; -120.826391

Im not trying to be nagative. Who knows mabye youll shoot a big one. Ive hunted Laguna including private land bordering and surrounding Laguna for many years. Ive pulled some pretty good hogs out of there. Ive never done well in the drier parts of the year. The private land around it that does not have significant water and feed is poor to bad during the drier parts of the year. I have permission to hunt 2 bordering lands of laguna mountain and I dont bother going during the summer. If theres no feed or water. they are long gone. I can only imagine how desolate laguna would be in july. The grapes are comming in and the cattle ranchers are now flaking the cattle. The hogs will be there. Laguna is a decent spot to hunt. I hunt the public land every year. I only go during the rainy green season and my results have been ok. Its gonna be well into the mid to high 90's down there and the hogs wont be moving till well into the night and to bed well before sunrise probabally many miles away. Laguna is about timing. I think the timing for Laguna right now is probabally close to its worse right about now.

When you kill the big one however please feel free to rub it in my face.

I was looking into my own hog hunting spots up in monterey and when I called the BLM office and asked them how I should go about gaining access to BLM land surrounded by private property, they said that the owners of the private property are required to grant you passage across their property. The GPS point I gave you is a peninsula of land that juts out onto the water. great spot for fishing and it gives you access to tree covered gully the porkers would prolly take to the water. There's about 60' of clearing from the tree line to the water level and it's clear shooting up the coast. Just don't make that tempting shot over the water. That would be a no-no :)

On a side note, i found a couple of hidden watering holes on BLM land up in templeton and san louis obispo. What would you guys think about heading up there around dusk and parking myself up in a tree with a 30-06 and waiting for first light to take some shots at whatever pig is having a drink of water?

cheers!

Don't think I would be listening to that BLM office, land owner required to give you passage, that won't happen unless your good friends of the land owner.
