Headed up to the ranch yesterday afternoon hoping that the hogs would be out after the recent rains. When we first arrived and parked we immediately saw lots of fresh rooting so hopes were high. We walked 5 minutes to the entry to the valley then split up, with my son heading up to walk a ridge and me heading across the valley to head up the other side. As I got across the valley I immediately noticed very fresh rooting... then turned to my right and see a boar staring directly at me 50 feet away! As I cycled a round into my 30-30 (1940's vintage M94) he turned to his right and started trotting parallel to me making it an easy broadside shot. About 125 lbs, a nice hog.

This morning we got up a bit late and started walking around at about 9. After not too long I spotted a big boar sleeping in the open about 200 yards away across and down a slope. We manuvered around to get a good angle at him, buy got busted by another pig and they both took off. Not long after my son spooked another group of a half-dozen, but couldn't get a shot off. Nice to see lots of pigs around, bodes well for the next trip! View attachment 87342
