I drew East Park Reservoir In 2006 and It's not far from Pillsbury so I expect the genes should be similar. Don't shoot a dink.

The majority are in plain sight and there are some big animals in there. If you haven't already, call Joe Hobbs at DFW. He's the elk coordinator and is helpful.

When I drew my tag my desire was to take a bull that represented the species. I did NOT want a bull that was a 6x6 no matter how large it was. I didn't want a bull that looks like a Rocky. I could have taken an 8x8 with crown points and a wide spread and long tines. I'm certain that score wise it was better than the bull I took, but when I saw the double drop bull I had to have him.

I have camped in the mendo forest above lake pillsbury with my good friend and hunting partner Jason JHO>(jb229) and father and freinds during the bear and deer archery opener. They have been camping and hunting for years there and I am sure they have some knowledge of the elk scene there. If u want pm him for some info or maybe he will see this post and chime in. I really miss those hunting trips there it is awesome country in the Yuki wilderness, but it can get hot at haties even at 6000 ft it can still be in the 80's, good luck!.........tra

The Pilsbury herd congregates on the flats pass the airport near the lake and near the campgrounds on both sides of the roads. I was turkey hunting near Lake Pilsbury resort ( it should be on the map)and saw a group of about 20 elk including some bulls and again it is not far from the lake and in the flats. Pre scout if possible that should give you a good opening day starting point.

I put the hunt on YouTube. Under lake Pillsbury tule elk. It was an easy hunt since I caught the tail end of the rut but once that's over the big bulls move off and its hard to find them when there not vocal

Wow. Good luck on your hunt. Looks like the kind of stuff we all dream off. How long did it take to get that tag and what are the fees if it's ok to ask. I have always wanted to hunt a elk but thought its out of my budget in California.

I had max points so if I'm not mistaken I had 15 or 16 so if your looking to elk hunt in California you better start applying because with so few tags it's super hard and it will take you some time to draw a bull tag unless your looking for a cow which is pretty easy depending on where you apply for

Ok. I think next year I will try to get points or a draw tag. I have never done any of that before and still have no idea what is involved. Each year I just get one over the counter tag. Congrats again and good luck to you. Can't wait to see how your trip is.
