Took some friends up on Sunday for their first time out! Wow, never seen it so packed with hunters, shotgun season was crazy. Someone was shooting a .45, another a rifle!, Me and my friend almost got shot by some kid when we were busting pigs on their beds! Id say that 90% of the hunters had no clue about where the pigs were or what the rules were. We got on pigs 4 different times but only got the one, hit her about 8ft away. I think im gonna go back next week and shoot all the pigs on the shotgun side so we can go back to the way it used to be. We registerd the second pig but i saw three more that werent . We had a great time but i think archery side might be safer, i hit one there on wensday so i have to go back and see if i can find them again. See ya out there!

I went up there Friday and came back Saturday afternoon. NO way i was staying for the shotgun opener. At the boat launch there were a few 12-14ft aluminum boats loaded with hunters, I counted 8 on one. Nice sow, and good work on locating the hogs.

Man, that sucks. Nothing like hunting in the public land war zone of gun season. Good job on the hog! Thank God you survived that encounter with the kid. I'll pass on Lake Sonoma for awhile.
Too bad Joel brought in the shotgun season. Sounds like some Bubbas got in there and are going to ruin it. Joel may have to go to another plan like going to a limited draw hunt to limit the number of gun hunters for safety reasons. That place is too small for unlimited numbers of gun hunters. And then the two yahoos with the .45 and the rifle? Obviously didn't regard the rules they are supposed to learn at the orientation.

About 6 or 7 years ago a buddy and I put in for a draw hunt at Lake Sonoma, rifle hunt. We got drawn, went up there the morning of the hunt, saw the other hunters who were drawn, and turned around and went to the Owl for breakfast and then home. NO WAY I would hunt Sonoma with a gun. Everything I have read about the place makes me want to take up archery again. I don't know if they still have those draw hunts but in my opinion, and keep in mind I am a gun hunter, the area should be archery only with a limited number of draw tags available for guns each year.
