Lake Sonoma Wild Pig Pre-Scouting Report W/Pics + Bonus Morning Hunt W/Mlindsay! Holy Moly What a Day!....

Well originally I was supose to do the redwood bowman turkey shoot yesterday but instead I got an invite from Mlindsay to get together for a little Sunday morning hog/ turkey hunt on some private land he has access too and then we could go to Lake Sonoma to register and do some pre scouting, that sounded like a great game plan so I was down.
I worked till 9 pm Saturday night went Home crashed for 3 hrs woke up at 2am out the door by 3:16 am after 2 1/2 hr. Drive I met Mlindsay at 5:30 am and we headed out for some hunting. I didn't take any photos of the hunt because I was trying to score first photos later agenda. It was solid fog so we had no distance veiwabillity but the weather temp was perfect with nice wet soft ground to walk on. Mlindsay took me on a fun hunting adventure on the property which had real nice terrain, we had to do a little bit of some billy goatin up the side of this one little mountain side, lucky we didn't slip or fall.
Ayer a few hrs of hunting and gettin to know each other we called it a day. I had a great time hunting with Marvin, heas a great guy! He had to head out so I headed to L.S. to register and pre scout. I met Rachel aka VC Girl and she took care of my registration, thanks Rachel your awesome! got my hunting plaque for the season. .....tra...cont.

I had less then 4 hrs to scout l.s. and was already mid day with hikers , joggers and horse riders and dog walkers all over the park and lake so I knew the chances of seeing hogs would be nill. Butt the great news is I got to talk to a lot of the regular hard core joggers and hikers of lake Sonoma who cover a lot of ground there all year and they where nice enough to give me great info where and where not they have seen or encounterd pigs in the last few months and got some real good leads. There where a few people confused looking at me because I had my hunting attire still on from the morning hunt and asked questions what was going on, I would explain and it was all good, people where being very nice! Went to lone rock to do some scouting and brought my bow and practice shafts to do a little shootin on the Sonoma bowman range which is an awesome outdoor range.
Then I headed to another area of the lake.to scout and started to find some good fresh sign like rooting, trials, track's and bedding. ...tra...cont.

After that area I went to a little hot spot that was in a large patch huge coastal redwoods with all bedding needles that I would hope I would catch some pigs bedding in but ended up with another suprize instead. As a crept along the ultra soft quite pine needle bedding in the woods I bumped into 2 doe's and there 2 youngs bedded down they stood up and just where looking at me with such curiosity they didn't bolt at all, I said what the heck let me keep looking for pigs s bedded down anyways and the deer just stood there watchin me looking around, it was strange no fear at.all of me in there inviorment. So after a few minutes I decided to play dear whisper with them and took some video of them while they keep.staring at me it was funny. Then I took some stills of them with me in the picture to show u how close I was, they just started grazin and milling around like I wasn't even there, the most tolarent deers I have ever encountered for sure, but I had a great time hangin with them but had to get back on the pig mission.

Jb229 and Mlindsay I send u guys the deer whisper documentary video I recorded, don't laugh when u here me doing a shout out to my wife while I am recording, the deer where just listening and watchin me the whe time.

Ok let me.wrap up this adventure, so I only had very little time left to.scout for the day and yet there was so much left for me to cover and scout so I just spent the last hr glassing from a very high advantage point overlooking some.prime pig lake Sonoma realestate with my spotting scope and high powered bino,s.
I didn't end up seeing any pigs and it was time for me to head back home for the 3 hr drive, I get sad everytime I have to leave the lake I really enjoy hiking and hunting there the scenery is awesome and so serine.
After my short scouting trip I feel it should be a good season at the lake for.hunting public wild.pigs with all the good positive sign I found and saw around, I look forward to letting an arrow fly to success this season and wish everyone else good luck too. Thanks for reading!......tra

Thanks inchr, Jason if I win the lottery this week I will quit work get a motorhome and camp at lake Sonoma for the next 4 months. I tell u what blew me away yesterday I met this older runner out there on the trail on the opposite side of lone rock , after a little of glassing i drove down the road to no name parking lot and get to the top and started glassing and then the same runner I saw was coming from the bummers peak trail by me and he yells saw no pigs at all the whole way over here I said thanks for the report.and he was headed back to lone rock that's a hell of a physical jog and distance and he ate it up he is well conditioned.
Yeh yesterday was the first time I got to drive the new golden gate bridge approach with the tunnel that was wild. ......tra
