Lake Sonoma

Got up there early saturday morning, and saw all the usuall sign and rutting but the mythical sonoma pig was nowhere to be found. But like everybody says and day in the field beats a day at home. On a positve note we did come across the mother of all wallows andI look forward to sitting on it my next trip up. Took a few pics and saw 2 bucks, got close enough to the small fork and took a pic. On the way out we saw a huge 4x3 with 5 does along the shore line. Took a pic but my camera was not strong enough to get any detail. But he had A dark chocolate rack, really nice.

Hey thanks for the cool pics and report. It looks very steep at hte shore line , hard to hunt on foot. I was wanting to know the real scoop on that place, sounds and looks very spoty at best.

I was out there Wednesday and Friday also. Most of the sign was old, but I did find some fresh rooting, and Joel's Boar Scat Trail is named well. Also found two new wallows but the water was clear - obviously not used for a few hours at least. Anybody see any hogs?

Wish I was out there with ya Bodega! You are definitely due! I have no life until Jan. 6 and then I'll be out there. That place definitely adds years to your life, if ya know what I mean. Take care and good luck.

Very steep indeed. And those hills are a LOT bigger than they look in these pics. Especially for those of us without boats pounding boot leather.

You definitely start to question your commitment to the hunt when you're standing at the top of one of those hills glassing down to the shore thinking "do I REALLY want to hike back up this thing if I go down to take a look at that rooting I see ALLLLLLL the way down there?" Especially when you consider how vast the odds are against you finding anything worthwhile once you get there.

That's one nice wallow.

I'v done my share of hiking there but won't be able to get there till Late Jan. this year.

Where is the information ranger joel posted about the "boar scat trail" I can't seem to locate it.

I doubt I'd hunt it as it will be pressured by the time I get out there but I'd like to know for reference.

We just got back today. We were the only people hunting the lake on Wed. and Thurs. Saw about 10 pigs and piglets but no shots. Bring on the weather!
