Looking for the elusive pigs at LS I came across this. I think it's done by a boar marking his dominance.
What you guys think? The y shaped mark near the bottom looks like it's done by scoring with one side of his head and tusk, and then the other side.
I put a camera near it.

I'd say that's from a buck rubbing his antlers. Awfully high up the tree to be a boar. Pigs usually rub their sides against trees, leaving a muddy spot on the tree.

Does not look like, too long for pigs, they have short necks = short head movement + would be semi circular
Those are long and vertical. Also i never saw a sign of pig rubbing his tusks, not saying it does not exists, just never saw. Side mud rubbing against trees to get parasites off. they love phone/electric poles to rub against to get some creosote on them

It being a buck rub makes sense, but if it looks fresh/recent, the bucks have no antlers right now. All the bucks in my area (Nor Cal coastal) were shed by December this year and don't appear to have much or any growth yet.

Could be from a boar. I think they have scent glands in their lip and they scent mark with them. There is a trail cam video out there somewhere of a wild pig rubbing it's mouth/lips/tusks on a tree.

Yeah, I've seen vids of boars marking trees with their tusks. They leave gouges sometimes.

At my place in Lake County on Sunday I saw a buck with 10" tines and two others that are budding...

Most likely a buck, if it’s a pig u will see gouges from their tusk on the tree with the scrapes, and then your typical tree mud rub from wallowing like cam posted.....tra

I would also say Buck, Bear would be higher and not continued down the trunk, they want to say hay this is how big I am !
Bucks are itching and trying to get the velvet off, from low to high.
