I was woundering what is the best and fastest way to get to lake sonoma from down south. Iv been on googles maps and theres quite of bit of roads out that way. any info is greatly appreciated.
Depending on where down South there are a couple of choices. Basically you want to head north on 101 to Healdsburg and take the "Dry Creek Road" exit. It is the one just past Central Healdsburg. Head west on that road and after about 15-20 minutes it comes right to the visitor center. You can't miss it. If coming up from the south but on the East side of the bay, take the Richmond San Rafel bridge to hook up with the 101 and then stay heading north. When are you going?
Judging by your location I assume you will be coming north on the I5. I could be wrong but I would think the best way is the I5 -> 205 -> 580 West. The 580 and 80 are the same road for a bit through Oakland and Berkeley and then the 580 peels off towards the Richmond San Rafel bridge.
I have been trying to squeek in an afternoon either Thursday or Friday but it will be tight! Thursday and Friday are calling for showers. If the forecast doesn't get better I won't bother. My experience hunting in the rain there is that I never see anything.
Not complaining about the hunting, just that I won't get out one more time. I definitely will be there in Oct when they open. The big problem is that by then I have burned through vacation time and what little is left us usually set aside for deer and elk. I'll have to find a way next year though to get in there when they first open.
You going for the whole day or just the afternoon? IF I can make it, I would be arriving about 3pm until end of light (7:02). I should have a decent idea about 8pm tonight if I am going. All my gear is packed just incase.
Probably all day, but at least for the afternoon. I am going to work late tonight placing home loans for my clients so I don't feel to bad taking tomorrow off. My gear is always packed and ready to leave in a few minutes notice. I've been trying to get CopperJohn to ditch work, but he's usually stuck at work. I don't want to ask PIGIG because then CopperJohn will have to work even harder.......
I would go up 99 to 205 to 5 and the take highway 12 off of 5, then 12 to 80, west on 80 then 37 at Vallejo to Lakeview Road, just past Sears Point Race way, then 101 north. I figure your looking at at least 5 hours. I can get to Fresno in 3 hours from here and Lake Sonoma in 2.
Well, my office is 2 hours from LS and my truck is packed. I should be there at 3pm tomorrow. Hopefully I'll see you up there yougblood. My radio is on 5-0. Now it's time to watch south park, walk the dog and then head to bed.
