So what are the laws on selling wild hogs in CA? In texas we can sell them to the live markets which pay 15 to 50 cents a pound. They in turn sell them to China.Federal law prohibits the sell for anything but slaughter. Our game wardens are probly not going to hold you for the Feds. You can stock wild pigs ,but you can not buy wild pigs to stock. You can sell the meat but you can't sell the meat for human comsumption. As for "black market" sells.....you can't really gets much for them.I gave away about 2 thousand pounds of meat last year to treatment facilities. You have to pay about 40 dollars (for processing fees) to donate meat to Hunters for the Hungry. But by giving the meat away I could process it myself and not pay just to donate it.We always talk about how messed-up CA is......so tell me what sort of crazy laws do you guys got on the books?

There's a ranch in Riverside Ca. that (I'm told) buys hogs at auction out of state and then turns 'em loose for hunters on the ranch. I'm also told it's laughed upon by hunters who have paid to hunt there only to find themselves tripping over semi-domesticated swine asleep in the brush.

I personally want to "Hunt" but that's just me. Most ethical hunters will agree though, places like this are good for hunters with physical limitations who still want to enjoy the sport and for them, I would personally donate time and fuel to make it happen.

i'm interested to hear what the laws are for stocking pigs on your property in cali. Not to let em go and hunt em. just to stock them let em breed for a few years and start hunting them after they have become enough to have a hunteable population.

I don't think you really want to do that. They breed like flys and you can't get rid off them. They distroy wildlife, plants, and stock. In years to come almost every state will have programs to try and limit their numbers. If you got hogs then you have less of everything else.......they don't get to be so large by eatting at health food stores. This is an untypical case.A good friend of mine who trapped for Wildlife Services (goverment trapper) went out on a ranch were a large hog killed 14 adult sheep. In one night! In the spring they'll eat fawns and other young animals.I don't really miss them.....But we don't have snakes anymore.People still stock hogs here in Texas and I sometimes sell to them......but I don't agree with stocking non-native animals.Sure I enjoy hunting them.We got Audad,Elk,red stag, sheep, goats, axis, and fallow deer.I catch as many axis and fallow as I do hogs some months.BUT I don't see many whittails anymore. For two years I have been really working on getting rid of the hogs and sheep. You can't get rid of hogs....They're too smart and they breed too fast.THat's just my two cents for what it's worth.....I understand most of you guys would be happy to have my problem......and I have learned to love hating them.

Hold on.I misquoted the laws in Texas in my first post. The different laws get hard to follow.I'd post where I got confused but Iam confused. The state and the State have different laws and many of the laws are not inforced.

You got some go points Heathen, If hogs were left too be, theyd soon ruin all the other wild life there is to hunt. I'm glad the DFG reconignizes that fact and has an open season all year long here for us. Your dang right I'd like to have your problem "too many hogs, too little time" How do I get to your house?

It is illegal in California to buy, sell or trade any part of a wild pig, including live ones.

Sort of. According to DFG I can use my own or have people give me turkey wings and spurs and I can make wingbone calls and jewelry from the bones and spurs to sell.

Make sure you have it in writing from your state F&G, sometimes the laws are not real clear on what is legal or not.
