Anybody have any experience with lead free 30-30 ammo for pig hunting? I'll be going after smaller " meat" pigs rather than trophies.

Cheers!

I've seen some for sale, but I'm wondering if anybody has used it on pigs. I've also got a 30 '06, that I'm sure can put a pig down with lead free, but I'd rather bring my smaller 30-30 along when crawling through brush.

Cheers!

my WIN 94 loves the federal prem. Barnes 150 gr. its the best ammo I've ever put down its tube 2" @ 100 yards and with Barnes rep. for smacking them hard you'll have now problem crushing even the biggest of boars.

Barnes bullets hit harder then any lead bullet on the market guaranteed.

I would agree about using the Federal Premium Barnes: if it shoots well in your rifle, it will do fine on any hog you come across. One warning: use a copper removing solvent and thoroughly clean your rifle before and after. We've seen quite a bit of copper fouling that adversely affects accuracy.

Aren't most (if not all) lead-based projectiles copper jacketed? In that case, the copper fouling would be a consistent problem no matter what you were firing. I've used Black Hills Premium with Barnes TSX in .308 to shoot a hog. It died. The round went exactly where it was aimed too. (that hog was a Tejon ranch hunt...guess I won't be repeating that trip any time soon) We are so fortunate that the high-minded folks in this state (CA) have seen fit to determine what projectile we can or cannot point at any game taken within a specific geographical zone. the Exclusion zone looks like a couple of lungs overlaid on the California map. What keeps the condors out of the space between the lungs?
Ah,I digress. Forgive me.
