I've used this ammo on a hog hunt last Oct. worked like a charm, the shot was about 140yrd the Boar walked back the way he came about 30yrd and dropped dead. No exit wound but I shot him as he was walking away and I think the bullet was lodged up near his front left shoulder. Here's a pic of the ENTRY wound ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21364439986.518904.jpg

I used 30-06 168gr I just went out today to check my gun before I go hunt the Bobcat Ranch in YOLO Co. I drawn for the DFG SHARE hunt and the land is owned by an Audobon Society and one of their rules is lead free bullets.

It's expensive but I love it. whether you get the bullet loaded by Federal or the Branes factory ammo the ballistics seen to be the exact same.

I shoot them out of a .270 and my dad shoots them out of a 7mm and we both killed elk between 300 and 350 yards with them last year. One shot kills.

I used Barnes TSX bullets on a number of critters. Good for thicker skinned game. Blacktails - I would use something else.

150gr TTSX out of a 30-06. Perfect expansion, dropped a 200lb pig into the puddle he was standing in.

I believe Federal no longer sells it. Too bad, because i use it for elk, oryx, deer and hogs.

The bullets have worked well for me and the two that I've recovered from game I've shot retained 100% of their mass much like the picture above.

The key issue for me is one of cost. I do not believe the greenies argument about lead contamination. I've watched a video provided to me from some Anthony Prato dude advocating lead free nationwide. Though I do not dispute lead is bad for us and the environment, there are good hunting rounds like core-locked type bullets that perform near as well without the cost.

I have to disagree about the cost. When you think about it the ammunition you use is perhaps the LEAST expensive part of any hunt. I hunt locally and spend far more on fuel than anything else. I do handload the Barnes with outstanding results, but there are a lot of other costs to consider. I like the Barnes so much that I use it out of state where I don't have to. Before we were required to use copper I was shooting the TSX in my 7mm magnum with great results on hogs and Blacktails.

Federal is now producing their own bullet that is similar in construction to the Barnes, but as I don't shoot factory I don't have any information on how well it's doing on game. I've been stocking the Barnes Vortex ammo at the AAFES gun counter simply because I know how it behaves and can recommend it.

I love it so much I use it even though I don't have too. My thinking that got me to use it it was that the bullet stays together and won't send lead fragments through my kill

Yes , we have used the Fed with TSX bullet in 7mm08 on hogs and all were one shot kills. My wife used them in Africa and it worked great on everything from jackel to wilderbeest.

There is no dispute about the cost, sorry Alan. A box of lead free at $45-50 vs. a box of good core-locked for $20-25. Any what about rimfire and the cost there?

What about range shooting? You can bet the farm that they will stop selling lead ammo locally once the ban takes effect, regardless of the propaganda that they spew.

I do agree about the superior properties of non-lead ammo, but your argument about cost being insignificant is not valid.

Yup - As soon as lead ammo is banned, ranges will no longer allow it. Send 60 rounds downrange (plus practice) in competition 4 times a month and tell me again how cost won't be a factor.

I will agree with 410 when we talk about the cost of hunt. How many bullets do ya shoot on a hunt. At the range you can pratice with lead ammo (for now) then sight in with the high price stuff.

You nailed it Uncle Bambi. How about rimfire? $20 for a box of 500 or $75?

Folks, this is about much more than saving condors. If you can't see the truth behind the movement I pity you.
