Laser range finder performance is a function of atmospheric conditions and the reflectivity of the target that is ranged on. They perform worst in foggy conditions than on dry summer days. Hard targets are more reflective than soft targets. On actual game your probably talking 250 t0 350 yds depending on the conditions. When set up on a ground blind (behind trees or bushes) in the predawn and prior dusk, I range on the terrain features. Thus when a target appears you have a very good idea about the range. When jump shooting, you don't have the time to range before the shot. Sometimes on grazing animals, especially pigs you have time to range on them before the shot.

I bought a RX-II a year ago and think it is a good rangefinder for the money. I was impressed by the TBR function for bow and rifle settings. However, the rangfinder does not perform well over 350+ yards. The specs are not true for real life hunting situations. Also, the rangefinder fails to register many objetcs that dont reflect well. For archery it is a must but I havent put it to the test on antelope or long ranging situations. Just my 2 cents.

My uncle uses one for bowhunting and loves it. I'm goint to get one soon myself...tired of my optilogic.

As long as it ranges out to 350, I'm happy with it...I don't see taking many shots longer than that with a bow anyways. 350 is long enough for the few times I rifle hunt anyways.

I have the RX-II also. I have to agree that 400yards is its true range. Im sure you could get longer readings on a reflective target but most things out in the woods just arent that reflective. In bow mode it will only give a compensated range out to 60yards, which is fine, but when target shooting itd be nice for it to go to 100 yards. Other than that I have had no complaints or non-performance issues and Ive had it for over a year now.

I only use it set in "bow mode". Itll only give adjusted ranges out to 60yrds in that setting which is plenty. So far its pretty darn accurate. No complaints yet

i think its a good rangefinder, myself i use it for bowhunting but like others said it doesnt go much over 400 which isnt bad i guess in my case for bowhunting. I love the TBR function it helps me get things accomplished. I think you should make the purchase. Good luck brother

I think it actually has three settings for bows depending on poundage and arrow weight if I remember right...
