Just got back from E. Oregon. Public land DIY. Had a great hunt. We killed 3 bulls and a giant chocolate black bear. Great hunt, great friends, great memories. Here's my bull.

Thanks all

It was an amazing hunt. Worked very hard for every animal. Sauvevato, hunted the Wholawa Whitman NF. Not sure how many tags will be allotted in the future, wolves are very present. Thanks USFWS.:skeered: Here's the bear. More pics to come.:thumbs up2:

Great pics and congrats on the hunt!

My buddies and I have 4 elk pref points in Oregon and trying to decide where to use them. We prefer a DIY or drop camp hunt. How many pref points did you have?

2 points, but like I said the wolves are moving in and putting a hurting on the deer, elk and livestock herds. It will be interesting to see how many tags are allotted in the north east part of the state as a result of the reintroduced predators.

Well we struck out on our Elk hunt #$%%$! Didn't see a single elk on the property, at least not during daylight hours. Found a few fresh tracks from night time passers by but nothing during shooting light! That's a sweet looking bear you guys got too! Hopefully MANY folks up there employ the three S's on wolves as do many on the cats around here!

From what I understand, talk about a colossal F-up on the reintroduction... They didn't "reintroduce" anything! They introduced a Non-native species of Canadian Timber wolf, not the Gray wolf which was the original in those areas... The T-wolf is much larger and much more aggressive of a killing machine. This is what I have heard, I'm no wolf expert, but if true, what a horrible mistake!

Bummer

That's a bummer you didn't get into the elk. Happens to the best of us. I've had my share of tag soup for sure. As for canis lupis, lots of good information on ODFW's websight. It will be very interesting to see where this goes over the next few years. Both packs are breeding so the results can't be good for the deer and elk herds. Perhaps a wolf season is is in our future like in Idaho. I'd buy a tag for sure.

Hey Bean,
poked around that site for a bit, thanks. I have to say however, I did get a pretty good laugh out of the "range rider" piece! Somehow the bark hugging, vegetarians think that will "solve" the problem... How long will range riders be provided "free of charge" until the cattle ranchers have to start paying for them themselves, or of course, lose cattle. And the funniest was the comment where they state that the non-lethal presence of the range rider works because historically wolves are fearful of and avoid humans...

YES, cuz HISTORICALLY they've been shot at by those humans, DUH! No shooting ='s no more fear, it's learned behavior, hello Pavlov! It's going to be a MESS in a few years and they aren't too far from our ranch now... couple more years and I imagine they will be in our herds too! I feel bad for Idaho!

To join the fight against the over-population of wolves check out biggameforever. They're putting a couple bills before Congress and they have a petition you can sign to show your support. If this doesn't stop we can kiss away 100 years of game management. Look how far they've spread in a relatively short time. Last year 2 were killed 20 miles from my place. They kept coming back to the same ranch to kill calves and sheep.
