DFG limited-entry dove and quail hunt deadline Aug. 7.

LONG BEACH -- The Department of Fish and Game is offering a series of dove and quail hunts on DFG-administered lands on the opening weekend for each species. The application deadline to apply for any of the hunts is August 7. The dove hunts are in the Cuyama Valley in Santa Barbara County on Saturday, Sept. 1, Rancho Jamul in San Diego County on Saturday, Sept. 1, and Sunday, Sept. 2, and in Peace Valley near Gorman in Los Angeles County on Saturday, Sept. 1. There are two dove hunts each day in the Cuyama Valley and Rancho Jamul, morning and afternoon, but only a morning hunt for Peace Valley. The quail hunts are slated for Peace Valley Saturday, Oct. 20 and Sunday, Oct. 21.

Hunters can apply for each hunt, but they must fill out and mail in a postcard application for each hunt. The card must include the hunter’s name, address, day and evening phone numbers, and his or her current hunting license number. You can include up to one hunting partner on each postcard application by including that hunter’s name and hunting license number. Hunters must also specify which hunt location, date, and whether you want the morning or afternoon hunt (where applicable). Again, hunters may apply for more than one hunt, but must send a postcard in for each hunt or hunt period. Cards should be sent to: California Department of Fish and Game, Game Bird Heritage Special Dove/Quail Hunts, 4665 Lampson Ave., Ste. C, Los Alamitos, CA 90720. If you need more information about these hunts, contact Scott Sewell at (562) 590-5100.
