Little help for a new guy

I would really like to go get a hog this season, however time is my issue. I have never been pig hunting and would have no clue where to begin. I also work 6 days a week and that is non negotiable. Which leaves me no time for scouting, tracking, following, guessing, etc.

So my question is where can I go on a Sunday and be more or less guaranteed to find a hog. I know this most likely means a ranch, and thats okay for me. Any suggestion of where and where not to go.

Almost forgot....location needs to be within 50 miles or so of Rancho Cucamonga / Ontario area in SoCal.

Cost is a concern too, so if you know prices that would also help.

Tejon Ranch and Cedar Canyon ranch are both approximately 100 miles or so of where you live. Both are private ranches...............Tejon is 100% wild hogs.......while Cedar Canyon Ranch is stocked with boars purchased from Canadian???? wild boar farms. The Tejon is probably $500 to hunt wild hogs and Cedar Canyon is probably $600 for hog hunts. Anyways check on their websites for the accurate info.

Those hog hunts tend to be expensive in California...............the best deal is Deedy's at Bryson Hesperia Resorts. Texas hog hunts are comparatively cheap............but there is the airfare tickets or the 150 to 200 gallons of gas to drive a round trip from Calif. to Texas and back......plus the cheeseburgers and lodging if you stay at a motel. Either way.....hog hunting is not a cheap sport.....but it is a lot of enjoyment.

You need to find a weekend to go out. If you are military or have a friend in the military, go to camp roberts. If not, go to fort hunter ligett. Roberts will give you the better chance at killing a pig. Also vandenburg isnt bad. I have killed pig at all of those places. No matter what though, with the winter coming, you need a 4x4 for any of them. And they are all very inexspensive.

Roberts is open for hunting in november 14-15 and 21-22. The 14-15 is for pig only.

You don't have to be military or go with someone that is military to hunt. Just pay your fee and have non-lead ammo. You do have to register your guns with the post.

question on Camp Roberts, do you mail in permits like FHL or can you do it when you show up?

During a scheduled hunt, show up, pay your fee, and that's it. Have your weapons registration form completed and hand it to the gate guard. Check station prefers exact change or close to it.
