its a cozy 48 degrees and dropping, got camp set up and decided to glass the hills, spotted a group of about 20 hogs filtering down the hills, but before you get too exicted it was on a closed area, of course. spotted 2 small forks battling it out over a doe. Pretty cool night so far, looking forward getting out tomorrow.

good luck to all that come up.

stay tuned...

Hiked all morning in the rain without seeing a thing, but as soon as the sun broke I spotted 3 nice hogs working thier way down a ravine. They were about 250yds away and moving pretty fast. I watched them for about 5 minutes to figure out where they were headed and get a good idea of where I could head them off. I started down the hill to cut them off and spotted them again but the changed direction and started up the hill away from me. I circled around them to keep the wind in my face and made my way into the thick cover they were headed to. At times I could smell them but I never did see them again and circled the area for 45 minutes but they had eluded me once again. Minus the weather it was another good trip to Sonoma. My dad ran into a warden and he said only 1 pig was shot but it was not recoverd. I will be back up thursday with my dad and his buddy so things should still be nice and wet.

Headed to Yorty around 9 Hiked all around saw lots of other hunters that saw pigs and one guy that was packing one out. All in all a good hunt, but no pig. My son and I are brand new to this pig hunting. Just wondering what everyone uses for a technique. Do you setup and stay/hide in one place and wait for pigs to come by or do you hike around and try and spot them, then try and sneak up on them.

I was up there friday to do some scouting with a buddy, then we went out saturday morning. Saw a ton of sign and found a nice wallow and some tree rubs.

I didnt see crap on saturday, the weather was horrible. Sunday my buddy saw 3 pigs. The lady at the visitor center told us 5 were taken on saturday. I did see about 6-7 does that came within 30 yards of me while I was posted at various spots, too bad it wasnt a deer hunt.

Hello LS Pig Hunters,

The total number of pigs taken so far is 10! 5 of those were taken the first day of the hunt. That's 1 more than opening day last year! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" /><o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>

Keep hunting, be safe & if anyone would like their pig picture posted outside the VC for all to see this season just email me a copy. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>

Good Luck!<o:p></o:p>

Rachel,

Any idea on how many hunters that may have been out then?

Thanks!

Hello Kentuck,

On the first day of the hunt we had about 50 to 60 hunters actually turn in a Daily Check-in sheet at the VC. Yesterday a hunter said he thinks the number was more like 150 people on the first day out there hunting. If so, they did not check-in at VC. We are averaging about 30 Daily Check-in sheets each morning at the VC. With that said, we have 369 hunters registered to hunt and 1 more pig was reported so the total is 11 for the season so far.

Thanks! Sounds like the registered hunter numbers are way down this year. Not necessarily a bad thing though.

Hello LS Pig Hunters, <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" /><o:p></o:p>
For the end of this hunting week the totals are 406 hunters registered & 12 pigs taken. Today we had about 30 hunters self register to go out & hunt. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
There was a big pig over 100lbs taken on the DCA yesterday. The picture is posted outside the VC. <o:p></o:p>

Take care, <o:p></o:p>

Probably one of the many I was on, on Thursday. So frustrating when you have hogs at 10 and 5 yards with zero shot opportunities. Hopefully the hunter will post up some pics. Thanks for the update.
