Local Schools Get Funding Support For National Archery Program

7/11/08

Bass Pro Shops, Department Of Conservation & Conservation Federation Combine To Create 15 $1,000 Scholarships

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri - Beginning with the 2008-09 school year, fifteen Missouri schools will receive $1,000 in funding toward the creation of a National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) at their school.

Bass Pro Shops, the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Conservation Federation of Missouri will combine to offer $1,000 toward the $2,700 program. The program fees include archery equipment and teacher certification for the program. Schools are responsible for the additional funding.

Bass Pro Shops will issue grants to schools in the vicinity of their five Missouri stores (Springfield, Branson, Columbia, Independence and St. Charles) to buy archery equipment. The National Archery in the Schools Program will be added to each school's curriculum. This effort in Missouri will be a pilot program that will lay the groundwork for a nationwide funding of National Archery in the Schools Program programs through Bass Pro Shops' 50 retail stores.

Fifty-two Missouri schools already participate in this program, which is administrated by the Missouri Department of Conservation. NASP curriculums are offered in 46 states and four countries.

Bass Pro Shops will also support the program with after-school shooting competitions at their retail stores, as well as equipment repair.
