Zimm I heard that tag isn't the greatest. The hunting is tough and slim chance of shooting anything, good luck though.

I've had two friends with L.P. tags and they both filled them in the same area. Drop me a line if you're interested.

Well boys, spent a day in the Lone Pine area yesterday, on the back side of a camping trip with the kids. Saw a lone cow mid-day, and then got lucky and spotted part of the herd right at dusk...about 20 elk with 5 bulls. Them boys are in full velvet and it was exciting to see. I will take a couple scouting trips as the hunt gets closer!

Anyone know the best place to camp in Lone Pine? Also was thinking maybe I'd just rent a cabin...so any info on that would be great!

Hey Jesse, yeah buddy...would love some help from ya! Was thinking of hitting a mountain quail spot for opening morning of mtn. quail (Sept. 8th I think) in the southern sierra's and then hit Lone Pine the rest of that saturday and sunday for scouting, or during the hunt, the second weekend of the hunt would work the 26th, 27th, 28th of October!!

Saw about a 100+ on Sunday comming back from Silver Lake. They were feeding in the green fields S/O Tennemaha.

I dont think that is part of the Lone Pine hunt though.

Good luck

Hay deadducks you dont by chance have yellow and black labs that were playing in what was left of rush creek right below silver lake. I spoke to a gentleman sunday afternoon there that was from Norco about hunting X9a.

I hope some of that luck you're having rubs off on us Zimm. Best of luck to you!

Should be a great hunt.

Jeff, you should do a new post so more people see your question....you'll likely get some decent info.

hntnnut,

Yep, that was me, the wife, our 3 year old son and the dogs.

I take it that was you fishing that I talked to for a few minutes there in the creek. Did you two end up catching anything?

How did the rest of the scouting go?

Nice meeting you and good luck

Should have known that my leisure electrician friend TROY would have all the info I'd need for my elk hunt! Sorry it took so long to reply......been at Lk Mead photoing my future big horn from the ski. When you are done scouting for your deer (there are not many in your secret spot yet) will you please spend some early mornings down in the Big Pine area and report back?

Seriouly, Got the redneck as spotter and plan to spend some time down there after A16. 1st time A16 in many years for Tony and I.

Still would love any info anyone has on the Tinemaha area.

camp in Lone Pine[/b]
Congrats on the Tag. Diaz Lake just south of town for camping. We stayed there when I and a friend drew our cow and bull tags.

Between the alfalfa fields east of 395 and the reservoir is the obvious choice. Between the the alfafa fields and into the foothills to the west (behind the hatchery) is the other place to look. Anywhere where the ground is flat sage is chest high east of the river.
