I know this is a long shot, but is there anyone reading this that has hunted the East Park Reservoir for Tule Elk. This is only the third season of its existence but I'd like to get as much info as I can. I'm heading up to Montana next week for the National Taxidermist convention and I plan to drive up I-5 first and take a couple of days to scout it. I probably won't get another chance to scout until a week before the actual hunt on sep.18 This is the only time I'm hoping NOT to draw an elk tag in AZ.

I've been through the area a few times... and I have seen elk a few times... About 2 years ago, I saw a bull that appeared to be a 9x9! He could have been an 8x9 though... Don't know a whole lot about the hunt boundaries... but I know that the elk frequently traverse between public and private land... rumor has it that some of the landowners in the area aren't too fond of hunting... Talk to DFGELK on these forums... he's the head of the elk and antelope programs for DFG...

Spend a little time in Stoneyford at the general store and the bar/grill...there are several ranchers who'd probably let you hunt elk there without charging an arm and a leg. There's a big bull in the general store there. You'll have no problem covering the hunt area in a day on foot to have a good feel for it but the elk do move on/off the property....I spent a couple years visiting a ranch quite a bit that encompasses about 50% of that lake on the west side. The elk mostly frequent the east side.

Congrats on a great tag! I'd have liked to have drawn that tag or ownens valley archery....it'll never happen now since I'm no longer in the top point pool having moved out of state....oh well. :)

Give me a call and I will fill you in 916 445-9992. I have not been there yet this year, but there are usually a lot of elk on the BOR property on the Peninsula. The elk move between that property and the surrounding private property.
