I am fairly new to Visalia. I got stationed at NAS Lemoore in April, and bought a house in Visalia. I have been looking and scouting different areas for pig, but am getting frustrated. The best sign I have found is out by Laguna Mountain / Clear Creek area, and I have heard them and my buddy has even seen them, but we just havn't been able to put one in the scope. Is there any other place for pig in this area? I am tired of driving 200 miles round trip and coming up with nothing!

I know the public land hunting kind of sucks, but the private land hunting is too expensive! There is no way I can spend that kind of money, I don't know who can. Thanks for the reply, I guess I will just keep up what I am doing and hope for the best.

You also have Vandyland as an option - DOD and Military retiree's only. Lots of guys have good sucess there.
Tejon is another option - when you add up all your time and gas, you're lookingat a weekend at Tejon which is loaded with pigs.

Camp Roberts, another miltery base just south of FHL They arnt open as often as FHL but is a good spot as far as public land. There is going to be a bunch of guys from here at FHL on Presdents day its a 3 day weekend and you will meet a bunch of great guys and have a good time. Check out the thread.

No its not there are two TAs (training areas) that are primative wepons only, Archery, muzzle loader and shot gun with slugs, all the rest are firearm. you will need a permit its 70$ per year or i think 25 per weekend. It takes 10 days too two weeks to get the permit.

Fhl you can you Rifle, muzzleloader or shotgun. But you must use copper bullet for which lead bullets are not allowed. And you have archery area as well Training area's(TA) 3, 29 and 13east which use to be called TA30. But most other areas are rifle. Go to http://www.liggett.army.mil/sites/local/ Please familiarize your self throught the web site and read it carefully and dilligently. If you do your homework at ft Hunter leggitt you can be succesful and there is alot of pigs wondering about. GOOD LUCK!!

I will have to check it out. I normally hunt with my 1955 Winchester model 70 featherweight .30-06, but I got a CVA .50cal muzzleloader for Christmas. I would like to try the muzzleloader, but when I took it out it didn't seem consistant at all, I don't know if it's the pyrodex or the sabots. So until I get that thing figured out I would be hunting with my 06. I just would hate to show up out there for a bow hunting event and have the loudest bow in the group.
The FHL hunt on President's day weekend is dependant on which training areas that FHL opens for hunting. Almost all areas are rifle hunting except a few that are primitive weapons only (bow, muzzle loader and shotgun).

I am one of the pig hunters on Vandenberg, and I can tell you that if you are interested in finding a hog, you won't be disappointed here. It's tough country in places, and four wheel drive is good, and lots of areas are impassable right after a rain, but there are lots of hogs here. We saw a dandy boar last night and usually see hogs when we are out. We are kind of picky about what we want, so we let a lot of hogs go by. If you want some information and you are military, give me a call on my cell phone some time, and identify yourself from Jesse's. I can more easily give you the information you are looking for. I'm a little late to the conversation, but I'd definitely agree with the folks who've recommended Vandeberg. It's a little further from Visalia than Camp Roberts or FHL, but from what I've been reading and hearing (I don't qualify to hunt there) it's probably your best bet for a great hunt.

take this for what it is i have hunted at ligget for about 30 years now and i will be the first to admit i dont always hunt from 1st light till dark but i used to and when i was young and wanted a pig i had my dad drop me off on one side of area 10 and i walked every canyon till area 13 where i found a little 80 lb pig to take this pig was a mountian in my outdoors life but i worked for about 4 weekends beforei took this little pig but it was amonument for me. I have hunted pigs elsewhere now and belive me you can do better on private ground if you add up all the time and money you spend to go and mabey the area is opened you want and mabey it is not then mabey someone is already where you want to hunt ligget is a great place to hunt but for pigs i think you can do better I have had some great deer hunts there but pigs are tough Will P.s. i have only taken three pigs in all my time at the fort

I live in Tulare and hunt for hogs often on public land near Coalinga, Porterville, and Pine Flat reservoir no such luck on public but figure the more I go the odds will get better, if you want to go up and do some huntin let me know... I'm always willing to go.........
