I'm looking for a good small digital that I can take to the stand with me. I have a Sony P41. Not the best, but doesn't do a bad job on the close up pics. But I'm wanting something with a decent zoom that I can get good pics of deer that are out there a hundred yards or so. I'm wanting to stay under $300. Doesn anyone have any recommendations?

Olympus C-750, a number of us on this board use this camera and it is great. It is a 4 MP camera with a 10X OPTICAL zoom, and a 4X Digital zoom (leave the digi zoom off for sharp pics). Any camera you look at pay attention to the optical zoom not the digital zoom. I paid more than $300 for my C-750, but now you can get them for around that I think, I just don't want to know what they sell for now it might be depressing.

Canon S1 IS. That is exactly what I am using mine for. 10x optic plus 12x digi zoom with computer chip controlled image stabilization.

The 740 has basically all the same features except it is 3.2 Mp and doesn't have a hot shoe for an add on flash. It would be fine for posting internet pics or printing your own 4x6 at home.

A few samples from the 740....

just as FYI,
you can add a 1.7x telephoto to get you out to 17x optical on the 740 and 750.
