Think they would let me buy some live ones. I've got an overgrown river nearby I could let them go in and a couple of yrs later would have some wild pigs to hunt:smiley_yahoo::smiley_yahoo::mooning::smiley_yahoo:

HAHAHAHAH yeah right.....my parents and I used to go there to buy their pigs back in the mid to late 80's and haven't been there since. How did we get to talking about wild pigs to farm raised domestic pigs? LOL

Bubblehide, you can make that two including me. At least those of us who are members on the forum.

As for public land pig hunting in CA, good luck. It is going to take several outings, miles (in a car and on foot) and money before you even see one. However, I understand the desire to do it yourself, but after awhile, you may begin to question your motives. FHL has got to be one of the best public areas to hunt not just pigs, but just about any game CA has. It may still take multiple outings but you will see enough each time to want to go back for more. Check their site and do a search here to get an idea of how hunting on the base works.

Wow, 2 Armenians that hunt; we're being overrun boys:lol bashing sign:.

BrittGPS818 provided some good and realistic advice. But, if you want closer places to hunt, start looking at BLM land. The problem with most public land hunting, for pigs, is that the country is thick with vegetation; so much so that the only way to get through it is on your hands and knees, on your belly, or on the very few trails that are on public lands. Then the few places that are open and actually huntable, only hold the pigs for a very short time, so it becomes a contest of being at the right place, at the right time, and of course, not being winded, seen, or heard. Can you harvest a pig on public lands, of course you can, but you need some skill and a whole lot of luck on your side.

With that said, most places in southern California now have grasses and greens tall enough to provide enough nutrition to really get the pigs rooting. So, it will now be much easier to find the places they are feeding. As such, now is the time to get out there and get after them.

Best of luck!
