I am very interested in doing an elk hunt next year during archery season but have never hunted in that state and i was wondering where to go to researcha and read about it. I am looking for the info about the draws and point system - how that works - looking for places to hunt - just need some direction - i want to do all the leg work. Thanks

First start at the DOW page

http://wildlife.state.co.us/Hunting/

Check out the application period deadlines,

http://wildlife.state.co.us/NR/rdonlyres/E...ner08182008.pdf

and read the statistics to find units with OTC archery Tags or Easy Draws.

http://wildlife.state.co.us/Hunting/BigGame/Statistics/

the Western Slope hunting guides are a good summary of units

http://wildlife.state.co.us/Hunting/BigGame/HuntingGuide/

Then get more in depth with your search with GMU Research www.gmuresearch.com

That should keep you busy for a while...good luck.
