I have a great 35mm Nikon N50 and lenses, and am looking hard to buy a digital SLR. Any suggestions?

Anyone here use the D50 or D70?

I've heard the format for the D50 is different?

Thanks!

I have used the D-70 for about a year and a half and I like it a lot. I too had several Nikon lenses that would line up with th D-70 and that was the determining factor between the canon and Nikon cameras, camera body's are all very similar but good glass is a must. Check with your local camera store before buying on line, they will quite often have the same price as an on line store for the kits.

I have the D50, but I've also used the D70, there isn't a whole lot of difference between the two, I believe the D70 has a few more buttons, but a guy I know was looking at my D50 and he said the menus and everything are pretty much the same.

Either one takes awesome pictures, you'll be very happy with either one! Especially if you've ever done a photography class and learned tricks with lighting and stuff, it's so much cheaper to experiment with a digital than with film, that's mostly what I've been doing ever since I got it.

Thanks, I did take a photojournalism class in college, and have a nice nikon 35mm slr and lenses and was looking into a dslr body.

Any reason to prefer the cf card(d70) over the sd(d50)? I've also been told the two menu dials on the d70 makes it easier and faster to change settings.

I do like the idea of being able to shoot at 1/8000th of a second with the 70, I'd like to photograph an arrow in flight just for the heck of it, and the reaction of a bow when shot..

not that I know of, I think I was told cf is a hair faster when loading images from the camera to the PC, I don't know for sure. The menus on my D50 are easy enough to navigate through, didn't take me long at all to learn where all the settings were, I've been shooting all manual settings since the 2nd day I had it.

I can't remember the 2nd dial on the D70, but I do remember hearing about it, can't say for sure.

I've been experimenting a little with motion past few days, this camera is pretty good at freezing motion, It could probably freeze an an arrow in flight as well, I was also able to achieve some neat effects by panning.

Playing around this afternoon, these Gi Joes look like they are just flying, but I just gently rolled the vehicle across the counter and did a fast pan by it, I love the effect it makes.

I am also looking to update my body to digital.

Will the flash from my F50 work on the digi' cameras?
