Johndoe,
The reality is that yes "sometimes" wild pigs are found in the LPNF where they bed in the thick brush, but 99% of the time and especially during early daylight hours they can be found on the surrounding private ranches or FHL where there is little to no pressure and the reliable food or water they prefer is found. The odds of getting a pig are slim, but they do get taken once in awhile, mainly during the late summer when the barley is ripe and the water sources are few, so they have to come to the river or the ponds on FHL.
That being said, there are two campgrounds up to the west, on the Nacimiento Furgeson RD, just out side FHL below the climb up to the coast.
IMHO, you will probably have much better luck hiring a guide. Contact Deedy at Bryson/Hysperia, she is a sponser here and knows the area around FHL and Camp Bob very well and has some dandy lease ranches.
Good luck and thanks for serving for us all...

Ha........I heard that active duty military personnel can hunt the base any day of the week in TA where there is no training going on. Is it just a rumor that I heard?
