Hello to all. I am new to this site and I think it is a great source of information and everyone here seems like a great bunch of guys. I'm from the Fresno county area in Cal. and have been hunting for pigs locally around Pine Flat reservoir and also Coalinga MIneral Springs with little success. I've been wanting to try either Los Padres NF or FHL. I don't have much info. on either of the two, so suggestions on where to start would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.

CAhntr,

Read the thread "Need Experience" and that would help you decide.

Welcome!

Hello. I have not tryed LP so can not comment on it but i have hunted public land in California for 28 years and FHL and Camp Roberts are some of the best i have ever hunted. FHL sence jun of 05, the start of the hunting year, has produced over 100 hogs. Camp roberts is smaller and not open as often but is good. U still have to do yopur home work and leg work but they are by far better than any public land i have ever hunted JMHO

"with little success."
Welcome to the frustrating world of hunting on public land for wild pigs...
Do a search back on any of these places(jesse has put together a wealth of info and there are many knowledgable hunters who post frequently here) and you will get an eye full, you just have to "read between the lines".
I believe FHL is closed until May because of military manuevers, Camp Bob is Very popular and LPNF is slim at best. You will have to take the time needed to get to know these places, as they are very big and the pigs are not in any one area. They are transitory and nearly nocturnal.

Thanks for the replies, I knew you guys would come through!

wtpops, I noticed you are from Coalinga, do you ever hunt Clear Creek or any other of the BLM lands in your area?

Yes i have, I have hunted just about every peace of public land with in 100 miles of here, all of them ruff, tuff and hard to hunt. Becides FHL & Camp roberts i have had most of my sucsess i the parkfield area, Stockdale mnt. (very ruff and hard to hunt ) there is a small peace over there about 140 acres that produced a lot of pigs and a few deer for me. Dont know if it is still there, there was talk of trading it to a private owner. I stopped hunting there because of the hassle with land owners and DFG. It just was not worth the trouble anymore.

The trespassing and pouching was out of control over there and i did not want to be lumped in with thoes types of people.

wow i cant speel tonight

I read in the "California Hog Hunter"?????? quarterly that the BLM land in Stockdale Mtn. was sold to a private landowner and is no longer open for public hunting. So be forewarned and stay out of Stockdale Mtn. God Bless.

Thanks for the info. guys. I hadn't heard that Stockdale was no longer public. Do any of you guys know the status of Clear Creek? I had heard it was closed , then I heard just portions of it were closed. Does anyone know for sure?
