Lt. Governor, Office of the Great Lakes, MUCC to Announce Michigan's Great Lakes Restoration Initiative

Event will outline priority recommendations to restore, remediate, and protect the Great Lakes
LANSING, MICHIGAN - Lt. Governor John Cherry, along with the Office of the Great Lakes, Michigan United Conservation Clubs (MUCC), various representatives of state government, the scientific and conservation communities, and grassroots advocates will be announcing a new Michigan Great Lakes restoration initiative at the Capitol Building on June 4, 2008. A press conference will occur on the glass floor in the rotunda at 10:30 a.m. with a reception to follow in Room 402.

Along with the announcement, MUCC will be releasing the report, Michigan's Role in Great Lakes Protection and Restoration; Analysis and Recommendations and the Office of the Great Lakes will be releasing its 2007 State of the Great Lakes Report, both which were instrumental in the creation of this initiative.

MUCC, Lt. Gov. Cherry, and the Office of the Great Lakes will also recognize the organizations and individuals who have been instrumental in the important work that has already been accomplished in restoring, remediating and protecting the Great Lakes by presenting the first Michigan Great Lakes Guardian Award in conjunction with the event. This recognition program will continue throughout the year as the Restoration Initiative progresses.
