Trees dropped along lake shore add shelter for sport fish such as bass.

Smithville, Mo. – Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) crews boosted fish habitat at Smithville Lake on Oct. 6 by felling trees growing near the shoreline into the water. The trees will provide good spawning habitat in spring for fish, especially largemouth bass. They will also be durable shelter for newly hatched sportfish fry hiding from predators.
MDC crews with boats and chainsaws dropped the trees into the water's edge in coves in the Rock Creek, Linn, and Roberts branches of the lake. All sites are north of the Route W Bridge on the lake's upper end.
